About this space

esea contemporary is housed in a former wholesale fish market, which was historically part of Smithfield Market Hall from 1873. Now a Grade II listed building and part of Manchester's lively Northern Quarter, the gallery was designed by Manchester’s OMI Architects, which won the RIBA Award for Design Excellence in 2004.

With its convenient street access and generous windows, the Communal Project Space is an ideal option for pop-up events and exhibitions. This versatile space is available for a limited duration, serving as an intermediary venue between our exhibitions and public programs. Availability: November - December 2023.

An art venue platforming artists and art informed by East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) backgrounds since 1986.
The esea Studio is situated on our lower ground floor of the gallery and is a purpose built space perfect for workshops, talks, seminars and many other private functions. It is equipped with projector and speakers in situ. The space is fully flexible with a removable partition wall that can be pulled across for breakout sessions or added privacy in meetings.

Our RIBA award-winning space provides a unique setting to host events and functions amidst the surroundings of our world-class contemporary art exhibitions, right in the city centre.

Located in Manchester’s buzzing and creative Northern Quarter district our stylish building is fully accessible and can be flexible to fit your requirements. We have high speed Wi-Fi access and are fully equipped with video conferencing and audio visual systems, as well as any other technical equipment you might need to create a unique experience.

This versatile space is available for a limited duration, serving as an intermediary venue between our exhibitions and public programs. Availability: November - December 2023.

Communal Project Space is available from £50 per hour.
